Shangri-La Village

We LOVE this mini Shangri-La village in Prospect Hill, NC, just an hour outside of Raleigh! It is such a work of art! For those of you that aren't geographically inclined, Shangri-La is not a city in the India (don't worry, Cole didn't know either...). It is actually a fictitious valley in a novel written by James Hilton. The term has now come to take on kind of an Oriental Utopian vibe. This little village sits in the front yard of the now deceased, Henry L. Warren. He started building the stone village in 1968 and finished the last building just before his death in 1977 (at age 84). His daughter still owns the property and they welcome visitors! The village consists of various structures including a church, hospital, theater, gym, gas station and much more! Due to age, it isn't as easy to decipher what each building is--but that's part of the fun!
The owners even have a visitor's book for you to sign. It is filled with names of people from all over the world that LOVED this curious work of art--I mean, some one came all the way from Australia. Super cool! As his son-in-law told us, "He wanted people to enjoy it!" And we certainly did!

Most of the addresses you will find online will not actually take you there, The house itself does not have an address, so here is the address of the Fire Department next door: 11621 NC Highway 86 South, Prospect Hill, NC 27314
